Dan Erbland & Cheap Divorce
Dan Erbland is a Brooklyn-based multi-instrumentalist and composer whose solo work explores improvisation within the context of electronic music. His debut EP "introvert", released December 5th, is a saxophone-driven collage of styles and textures that blurs the lines between jazz, songwriting, and electronic music. This show will be his EP release party.
Telem Uncommon Sounds
Telem Uncommon Sounds artists are pioneering a new wave of fresh sounds in Sierra Leone. With a revolutionary and unconventional style, Telem artists are blending existing genres like Bubu, Gumbe, and Milo jazz with experimental new techniques. Influences include Jazz, Blues, Neo-Soul, Bossa-Nova, Afro-Jazz, and Funk – and the music is blended with odd sounds, frequency manipulations, polyphony, recordings and just about whatever else we can imagine. Unbounded by the rules, Telem artists are a collective of creatives expressing a side of Sierra Leone that the world has not seen before.
Blahsum
Blahsum is a psychedelic rap jam band based out of Brooklyn, NY. In the early days it was just frontman Garbo, writing lyrics and cutting together beats in his Chinatown home studio. He began to develop a following from a series of releases called the Moon Tapes — new collections of songs that debuted every full moon. Over the years the live band has taken on a life of its own, stretching the songs further and further out with freewheeling arrangements and a no-two-shows-are-the-same ethos of exploration and improvisation. The group has expanded to include Garbo’s brother Zach M on the drums, Zach Schepis on lead guitar & harmonica, Nate McManus on rhythm guitar & trumpet, Alex Torke on the bass, and Dan Erbland on the saxophone. Blahsum continues to showcase their unique blend of rock, jam, punk, and rap at venues along the east coast.

Mungo's List (Jam Night)
Tonight’s open jam will be hosted by Mungo’s List! They’ll kick off the night with 30 minutes of original music and then open the stage for musicians to join. Bring your instrument and jam!
Maggy & Jean
Jean and Maggy’s music reflects both of their deep connections to the earth, flowers, and sun and moon. Jean brings musical theatre vocals supported by her booming bass lines, while Maggy adds a touch of folk, blending into an indie sound.
Bringing the groove of the electric bass and Melodic heart pull of the violin together, they've beautifully married the two with tight harmonies and thought provoking moods. Come hear Maggy and Jean play their originals and their own take on songs by artists like the Punch Brothers, Lana del Ray, and The Backseat Lovers.

Sivan Arbel is a worldwide performer and an effervescent talent on the international jazz scene. Her original music, arrangements and lyrics open a window into her rich inner world. She playfully layers her artistic expressions with her love for jazz and other diverse musical influences that are grounded in her Israeli roots and global travels.
Rugburn
Rugburn’s music is a high-energy blend of funk, rock, and jazz, characterized by adventurous improvisations and tight grooves. Beginning in the New Brunswick, NJ basement scene, they have been playing together for the past five years from New York City all the way to New Orleans.

On the second Sunday of each month, host Natie brings her Sunday Art Hang to Umbra, a creative collaborative evening where musicians can bring their instruments and jam together through interactive and inspirational art prompts.
The Amick Ambach Experiment (Jam Night)
The Amick Ambach Experiment is the duo project of Felix Ambach and Noah Amick. Usually playing drums and bass together in other people’s projects, they use this duo as a chance to play improvised electronic music. Their sets are high energy and fully improvised, exploring sound design and groove.
David Nájera Trio
David Nájera González is a Mexican drummer, composer and educator currently based in NYC. Since his childhood, a strong gravitation towards music has acted as a driving life force. At the age of 19 he moved to NYC and attended the New School for Jazz And Contemporary Music, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2021.
In 2021 he formed Patos, an octet ensemble for which he composed and arranged music up to 2022. He recorded five arranged compositions at Dimension 70 studios that were released on streaming platforms on February 9th, 2024.
Dreamphone
Dreamphone is an indie dreamwave duo project by vocalist Hattie Simon & producer Seb Zel, swimming between worlds of lush orchestration, ethereal vocals, textured soundscapes, and poignant lyrics. Driven by radical shifts in texture and dynamics, their music reveals influences ranging from Sufjan Stevens, James Blake, and beyond.
Eddie Flamingo (presented by Threes Brewing)
Eddie Flamingo is a multidisciplinary artist from New York City who enjoyed success in the 1950s and 60s, and fell into obscurity in the 1970s. He then served as the resident lounge singer of the afterlife from 1978-2023 where he honed in his craft. He came back home to New York in 2023 and joined forces with his good old friend Horn Diaperson (Bass) and Leo Hammerfoot (Drums).
The group has a residency at Umbra once a month, where they can bust out old classics and try out new grooves. This show will be presented by Threes Brewing, and we’ll have specials from the brewery on tap all night long.
Planetary People
New York City's Planetary People are proud creators of modern groove music that blends funk, jazz, hip-hop & whatever the hell else they feel like playing. It's music from space to make your booty dance.
Planetary People formed in 2014. Recently they hit their stride in 2020 as they pursued a new mission: #planetarytransmissions, as a way to stay active while the world was in quarantine due to COVID-19. The band has been writing and releasing a new song and music video, all recorded remotely, mixed and mastered, EVERY WEEK. Thats right... starting in March 2020 the boys have been releasing original music like clockwork. Their full catalog of "transmissions" can be found on their YouTube and Spotify channels (mix tapes of past planetary transmissions).
Will Patrick
New York-based guitarist, singer, and songwriter Will Patrick combines R&B, jazz, funk, rock, hip-hop, and soul music. While still in his teens, he performed at venues including the Blue Note New York, Blue Note Tokyo, and Java Jazz Festival in Indonesia.
Will Patrick’s sound has been described as “fiery, soulful, and eclectic” and has drawn inspiration from artists like Butcher Brown, Roy Hargrove, Jimi Hendrix, and D’Angelo while developing his own distinct voice. Artists he has performed with include Larry Coryell, Kirk Whalum, Billy Kilson, Bob James, and Patti Austin. He has released several projects under his independent label, The Radical Collective, and has established himself as an up-and-coming artist of the new generation.
Tal Mashiach (Jam Night)
Tal Mashiach is a Grammy nominated multi-instrumentalist, performer and composer based in Brooklyn, New York, combining his skills to create one of the most prominent and original voices in the world\Jazz music scene.
Ben Perowsky, Charlie Burnham, Marcus Rojas
Perowsky’s notable career has placed him among a small vanguard of players able to move between jazz, experimental music and cutting edge pop and rock. He cut his teeth as a youth playing drums for the likes of Rickie Lee Jones, John Cale, Roy Ayers, James Moody, Bob Berg, Mike Stern and Michael Brecker. Broke ground driving back beats for NY bands Elysian Fields and Joan as Policewoman as well as John Lurie’s Lounge Lizards. He Co-founded the electric jazz group Lost Tribe and has continued to record and perform with pop and jazz legends such as John Scofield, Belle and Sebastian, John Zorn, Dave Douglas, Lou Reed, Pat Martino, Tegan and Sara, Uri Caine, Steven Bernstein, Walter Becker, Vernon Reid, Loudon, Martha and Rufus Wainwright. Ben has produced 8 critically acclaimed records to date. He currently plays in a band called RedCred with John Medeski and Chris Speed.
Charlie Burnham is an American violinist and composer. He has a unique highly imaginative style that crosses genres, including bluegrass, delta punk, free jazz, blues, classical and chamber jazz. He often performs with a wah-wah pedal. He initially became renowned for his work on James “Blood” Ulmer’s Odyssey album. The musicians on that album later performed and recorded as Odyssey the Band, sometimes known as The Odyssey Band. He was also a member of the String Trio of New York, and has played in the 52nd Street Blues Project, Hidden City, We Free Strings, Improvising Chamber Ensemble and the Kropotkins.
Tubist Marcus Rojas has performed with such diverse groups as The Metropolitan Opera, The American Ballet Theatre, American Symphony Orchestra, Radio City Music Hall, and ensembles led by Lionel Hampton, David Byrne and P.D.Q. Bach. An avid proponent of contemporary, improvised and classical music, he has performed the premieres of such notable composers as LaMonte Young, Gunther Schuller, and Peter Schickele. He has recorded with CBS Records, Sony Records, A&M Records and has been heard on countless film scores, including Interview With A Vampire and Sleepless in Seattle.
Overheard feat. Pon Far (Album Release Show)
Overheard has become known locally for their ‘soft-then-hard’ style. Barth-Dwyer brings intricately finger-picked guitar and a voice that ebbs between soft lullaby and emotional belt, delivering lyrics of being, memory, and home. LaPorte, providing backing and occasionally lead vocals, writes of childhood and what it leaves us, underscored by tastefully chaotic, overdriven guitar melodies. Thomas carries the group through its moments of peace and aggression with their lush and harmonious bass lines, while Hauptman is either a smooth resident of the pocket or a blonde blur behind the kit – all while providing backing vocals.
Metadance
Metadance is an innovative live electronic trio started in Brooklyn in 2022. This group performs dance music live in real time, mixing and improvising like a DJ. Between popular covers and originals, Metadance inserts a human element into machine-based music which crowds will be left captivated by.

The Busy Corner is a live looping mix of full on improvisation and well arranged routines, all performed from scratch with no loops or “pressing play." The brain child of Brian McQuade, local musician and educator, this one-man-act takes you on a journey, blending nudisco, neosoul, and jamtronica.
Brian will be joined by collaborator and national touring drummer of Space Bacon, Sam Crespo, for what’s sure to be a wild and fun ride of sound!
Stuart Bogie (Album Release) featuring Josh Kaufman & Sam Cohen
Stuart Bogie will be performing two sets of music alongside Josh Kaufman and Sam Cohen in support of Bogie’s new album, Patient Music, streaming everywhere November 1st. The evening is presented by Historical Fiction Records.
Stuart Bogie has toured and recorded with Antibalas, Arcade Fire, TV on the Radio, James Murphy, and Iron & Wine, while performing as a soloist in the Broadway production, Fela! As a composer & arranger, he scored Oscar-nominated documentary 'How To Survive a Plague' while leading his own band, Superhuman Happiness. He has also served as MD for concerts at BAM Opera House and Lincoln Center Out of Doors.
Josh Kaufman is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, arranger and producer best known for his work with Grateful Dead founder Bob Weir, The National, This Is The Kit, Hiss Golden Messenger, Josh Ritter, Craig Finn, The Hold Steady and The War on Drugs. He is a member of the groups Muzz and Bonny Light Horseman.
Songwriter Sam Cohen spent long stints as a bandleader, working as the core of the ecstatic Apollo Sunshine for the entirety of the aughts and then with Yellowbirds for the first part of the 2010's. After Yellowbirds called it a day in 2014, Cohen spent some time working on other people's projects but still managed to write a new set of sun-dazzled synth-rock tunes for his first album under his own name, 2015's Cool It. He followed it with The Future's Still Ringing in My Ears in 2019.
Quadrature
Quadrature is a musical powerhouse that ventures into uncharted territories at the intersection of raga, rock, jazz and psychedelia. Quadrature features the mesmerizing sitar and effects of Neel Murgai, alongside the innovative Firebird trumpet and effects of Indofunk Satish, the rhythmic brilliance of Tripp Dudley on drum set, and the deep grooves of Damon Banks on bass.
Emerging from the legendary Brooklyn Raga Massive (BRM) jam sessions, Quadrature began their journey with fully improvised sets rooted in ragas, captivating audiences on the streets of Brooklyn. In 2023, they were artists in residence at David Rockefeller Creative Arts Center at The Pocantico Center, where they further developed their sound and arrangements. They have performed at Globalfest at Lincoln Center, Ragas Live Festival at Pioneer Works, Levitt Pavilion, Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, DromNYC and more. Inspired by their name, which derives from mathematics and astronomy, Quadrature delves into experimental realms of black hole blues and intricate melodies to create a distinctive sound for this time and space.
Halloween Costume Party feat. Music from Gorillaz, Steely Dan, & Deep Purple
Umbra is having a Halloween Party on Halloween evening, which will include a costume contest for attendees that judges will vote on and award a grand prize to the winner! There will be three bands donning musical “costumes” and covering another band’s music in entirety, so expect sets of music from Deep Purple, Steely Dan, and Gorillaz.

Michael Sarian Quartet
Trumpeter and composer Michael Sarian has been praised for his "unique compositional and instrumental voice" (Friedrich Kunzmann, All About Jazz) and his "endlessly renewable strain of lyric improvisation regardless of context or material." (Peter Margasak, Downbeat Magazine).
Born in Toronto and raised in Buenos Aires, Michael relocated to New York City in 2012. Michael has performed at some of the most iconic international stages, including the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, Getxo Blues Festival in Spain, Teatro Colón in Argentina, and at some of New York City's most beloved venues such as the Blue Note Jazz Club, Jazz at Lincoln Center, BRIC JazzFest, The Beacon Theater, and Central Park SummerStage. He has appeared on WNYC's Soundcheck with John Schaefer, NPR's World Cafe, and many more.
Chris Borelli
Chris discovered his abilities in hip hop at age 18 when he began to build on his production skills as an undergrad in college. It was there where Chris discovered his voice in rap music and began crafting his energetic stage presence.
His abilities strengthened quickly as he applied his traditional knowledge of music into his style of rap. Chris now actively releases music and performs all around NYC.
His lyrics are raw and direct. His messages are confidently delivered. His content is pure, honest and relatable.
With over 10 years of experience, Chris Is sure to leave a lasting Impression on any stage he touches.

Big Lazy
Big Lazy has flourished for over two decades in New York’s downtown music scene, playing their singular brand of noir and twang from iconic NYC clubs - Tonic, The Knitting Factory, Barbès to the The Museum of Modern Art. Simultaneously gothic and modern, noir and pastoral, Big Lazy’s music conjures images from big sky country to seedy back rooms with deftness and a cinematic clarity. With sparse instrumentation (Stephen Ulrich - guitar, Yuval Lion - drums, Andrew Hall - bass) the trio forges a new American music from archetypes in Rock, Jazz and the Avant Garde.
Sarah Cabral
Sarah Cabral grew up in southern Brazil. She draws on modern jazz, avant-garde, and classical influences to breathe new life into seemingly bygone eras of traditional and popular Brazilian music. A recent review by Helvécio Cardoso in Diário da Manha read that her music “unites the sophistication of the most exquisite taste and simplicity.”
